چکیده

As an inherent characteristic of materials, the fracture toughness is important parameter to study cracking behavior asphalt concrete mixtures. Although material compositions and environmental conditions have a significant effect on toughness, for certain testing environment, test condition including specimen configuration loading type may also affect obtained toughness. In this paper, applied measured pure mode-I (KIc) investigated. order achieve purpose, using typical mixture, four different specimens Semi-Circular Bend (SCB), Edge Notch Disc (ENDB), Single Beam (SENB) Diametral Compression (ENDC) disc are tested under mode I. The mentioned shapes (i.e., full disc, semi-disc rectangular beam) loaded either with symmetric three-point bending or diametral compressive force. tests were performed at two low temperatures (?5 °C ?25 °C) it was observed that critical changed slightly (up 10%) by changing shape beam). This reveals not significantly dependent specimen. However, has influence determined I such compression ENDC) about 25% less than KIc value same geometry but ENDB) addition, values all samples increased linearly decreasing temperature ratio (KIc (@?25 °C)/KIc (@?5 °C)) nearly constant ENDB, ENDC, SCB SENB samples.

Effects of Compactor Types on Aggregate Orientation of Asphalt Mixtures

More than 90% of Malaysian roads are constructed using asphaltic concrete. However, previous investigations of asphaltic concrete have mainly concentrated on the macroscopic properties of the composite materials based on the assumption that the mixtures are homogeneous and isotropic. This paper applies a digital image processing technique to compare the orientations of coarse aggregate particle...

Risk Management of Low Air Void Asphalt Concrete Mixtures

Various forms of asphalt pavement distress, such as rutting, shoving, and bleeding, can be attributed, in many cases, to low air voids in the mixtures during production and placement. The occurrence of low air void contents during plant production may originate as a result of an accidental increase in binder content or mix fines (or both). When low air voids are encountered during production, t...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

Evaluation of Fatigue Properties of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Reclaimed Asphalt using Response Surface Method

This paper presents the effects of different amounts of reclaimed asphalt on fatigue life of asphalt mixtures. Central composite method was used to design of experiments based on response surface method (RSM). Binder type (Pen 60/70 and Pen 85/100), reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content (25, 50 and 75%) and loading strain (150, 250 and 350 micro strain) were selected as independent variables...
